Champion chainsaw carver Iain Chalmers cut a dash at Carrbridge on Saturday when he won the annual Carve Carrbridge competition for the third year in a row.

Twenty-three carvers sculpted their way through logs weighing over a tonne and a half with the aim of snatching this year’s title from the reigning champ.

Iain’s carving, entitled `Early Morning Alarm Call,` featured a wily fox attempting to snare an unsuspecting chicken. Looking from over a fence is a pig and a cockerel.

Commenting on his work, Iain said: "I had an order to create a fox and a hen and I was impressed with the finished product. But I wanted to add more to create a scene, hence the inclusion of a pig and cockerel."

"The hen is saved, though, when the pig falls through the fence and squashes the fox" he quipped.

Iain’s creation was auctioned for a record price of £1,300, the finishing touch to the day as it was also his son Ewan’s 12th birthday.

This year’s event attracted over 2,500 spectators who, as well as watching the carvers, were able to browse the many stalls and stands.

Commenting on the organisation of the day, Iain said: "This event is like a well-oiled machine. The weather was great - but then it never rains in Carrbridge."
